This is a mini-tutorial on how to subscribe to podcasts that aren’t listed in the iTunes podcast directory. This specifically applies to my podcast, Late Night Computing, which is included in the screen shots. However, this can be used for any podcast that has an RSS feed.
First, open iTunes and click the advanced menu, then click on Subscribe to Podcast…
In that window, enter the rss feed URL for your podcast. The feed URL for Late Night Computing is http://feeds.rapidfeeds.com/6468/
Click OK. When you click on the podcasts section of your library, you will get a screen that looks like this. The little yellow circle means that a new episode is downloading. If you want to download past episodes from the feed, simply click on GET beside the ones you want.
iTunes will automatically check for updates for podcasts either hourly or daily, depending on how you set the settings. If you’re just subscribing to Late Night Computing, there’s no reason to check this often. You could set it to only update manually, and then you would look here:
and click the refresh button on the bottom right of the iTunes window.
